Emerging from Lebanon, the band Turbulence, the one-time Dream Theater cover band, continues to confidently forge their own path in the prog-metal scene with their third album, "Binary Dream." With nine tracks running close to 50 minutes, the album is an exploration into the theme of artificial intelligence and consciousness, encapsulated through the eyes of a robot named 8b+1.
The "Binary Dream" narrative traverses the awakening of 8b+1, examining themes of identity, reality, and the human struggle with internal and external chaos. This storytelling is matched by Turbulence’s musical dexterity. Each track unfolds with complex arrangements and competent performances. You don’t cover Dream Theater without getting your technical chops in order, which Turbulence certainly has.
The album's composition boasts a balance of melodic craftsmanship and technical proficiency that appeals beyond the prog-metal aficionados to a broader spectrum of listeners, making it an ideal fit here at Prog Radio.
The album's composition boasts a balance of melodic craftsmanship and technical proficiency that appeals beyond the prog-metal aficionados to a broader spectrum of listeners, making it an ideal fit here at Prog Radio. The band’s background, emerging from the unlikely prog-metal scene of Metn, Lebanon, adds a unique layer to their music, infusing it with a blend of cultural influences and a passion that comes through in their music.
From the first track to the last, "Binary Dream" is a compelling, thought-provoking, wonderfully crafted album. Tune in to Prog Radio to enjoy several tracks from this exceptional album. Look for it also to be featured in Monday's and Tuesday’s “What’s New Proggy Cats?” show this week.
